Auxiliary generator optimisation for a tanker fleet, phase 1
Six months of data from the four auxiliary engines on three sister vessels assessed and mapped, establishing the base for generator optimisation and fleet benchmarking.
Challenge
A shipping operator wanted to reduce energy consumption at sea by using its generators better. The data from the four auxiliary engines and generators on three sister vessels had never been assessed for that purpose.
Solution
Arundo took in about six months of data per vessel across fuel, engine, turbocharger, lubrication, cooling and generator tags, validated continuity and sampling against the class society's own resampling, mapped the sensors across engines, derived on/off states from RPM and temperature, and separated trips from transient loads.
Impact
Data quality confirmed good enough for operational optimisation, with the sampling-rate and mapping issues named; the recommended next step was generator optimisation from single generator to fleet benchmarking.
