Critical-equipment monitoring for a cruise-ship yard
Eight reliability use cases discovered on the steel, pre-treatment and plate-cutting lines, three prioritised for a first pilot; an hour of line downtime costs up to EUR 50,000.
Challenge
A cruise-ship yard planned to double its capacity within three years, which would put unprecedented demands on the reliability of its production lines. Downtime could cost up to EUR 50,000 an hour, and the year-to-date incident log already showed 144 hours of downtime on two facilities.
Solution
In a two-day discovery with the yard's engineers, Arundo walked the steel factory, pre-treatment facility and plate-cutting line, articulated eight use cases with their equipment, failure concern, business impact, data and infrastructure, and ran a value-and-feasibility vote. A solution design followed for the three winners: condition monitoring of the two paint-shop pumps, of the twelve blaster turbines, and of the two plate cranes.
Impact
Three use cases ready for a 30-day pilot on six assets, with a roadmap to real-time visibility of all critical equipment across the production lines. Avoiding three hours of weekly production loss was estimated to be worth up to EUR 7.8 million a year in schedule penalties alone.
