HOW WE WORK · PROBLEM-FIRST

We start with the problem.
Not the data.

The fastest route to Level 2 is not a platform project. It is one solved problem, then the next, then the next — with the platform assembling itself underneath as you go. That is how we work, and it is why our customers see ROI in weeks, not fiscal years.

The fork in the road

There are two ways to bring AI into an industrial operation.

THE INDUSTRY'S DEFAULT

Platform-first — call it the Year-One Platform Project.

Spend a year — often longer — implementing a platform: connect every historian, normalize every sensor and asset to a naming standard, model the whole plant. Then, once the foundation is "ready," go looking for use cases to justify it. The cost lands up front. The value, if it comes, comes later — and the use cases were never the starting point, so they are whatever the platform happens to make easy. Every buyer in this market is choosing between two architectures: a Year-One Platform Project that hopes value shows up in year two, or a platform designed backwards from Level 5 that pays from problem one.

HOW WE WORK

We are the direct opposite: problem-first.

We start with an operational problem worth solving — a changeover that wastes product, an energy bill that ignores the market, a furnace that cokes on the planner's blind side. We solve that, in production, in weeks. Then the next problem. Then the next. Each solution adds its assets, sensors, and documents to your Domain — so the platform you would otherwise have spent a year building accrues as a by-product of problems already paying for themselves.

You never fund a platform project. You fund solved problems, and the platform arrives anyway.

TWO ROUTES · ONE TWELVE-MONTH TIMELINE

0 3 6 9 12 months PLATFORM-FIRST — the Year-One Platform Project a year of platform work — connect every source · normalize every tag · model the whole plant value delivered: none yet then: start looking for use cases PROBLEM-FIRST — how Arundo works use case 1 live use case 2 use case 3 use case 4 …the next cumulative ROI LEVEL 2 — for the parts of the plant that matter the Domain accrues: same destination — one route bills a year before the first result; the other pays for itself from problem one

Five questions to ask any platform-first vendor

Take these into the meeting — they're fair, and they're clarifying:

  1. When is the first solved problem live in production? A date, not a phase name.

  2. What has the project returned by month six? By month twelve?

  3. Which operational problem is the scope built around — and who in our plant owns it?

  4. If we stop after the first use case, what do we keep? Does the value survive the exit?

  5. How much of the platform gets built only when a use case needs it — and how much before any use case exists?

Ask us the same five. That's the point.

Where do you start? Three doors, all open.

"We know exactly what hurts."

You have a use case in mind — a problem you believe is solvable at Level 2 or 3. Best possible start: we go straight to the data check and solution shaping.

"We have problems, but we're not sure data can fix them."

That is what the use-case workshop is for: a structured session with your operators and engineers to surface the problems worth solving and test which are fixable with the data you have — or could have.

"We just know there's value on the table."

You feel the areas where decisions made on data would beat decisions made on habit — energy, quality, maintenance, throughput — but nothing is named yet. The workshop starts one step earlier, mapping where optimisation pays in your operation.

How an engagement runs

  1. 01The problem. We agree on the operational problem and what solving it is worth — the ROI target is defined before anything is built.
  2. 02The data check.Does the data this solution needs exist? We verify at the source: historians, control systems, logs, documents. If it doesn't exist, we say so — and what it would take to get it.
  3. 03The solution shape. Our data scientists determine what actually solves it: a physics model, a machine-learning model, a prediction, or a tree of a hundred deterministic calculations. We are agnostic about the method and stubborn about the result — the problem picks the tool, never the reverse.
  4. 04Live in weeks. The solution is built on Foundation and deployed to the people who own the problem. A kickstarter stands up your Domain — the assets, sensors, and documents this use case touches — in days.
  5. 05The next problem. With the first solution paying back, we pick the next. Your Domain now covers more of the plant; every subsequent use case starts further ahead and lands faster.

Hyper-vertical, on purpose

The problems worth solving are rarely confined to one asset. They run end to end — upstream through feedstock and scheduling, downstream through quality and delivery — touching many processes at once. That is what we mean by hyper-vertical: targeted solutions that go as deep and as wide as the problem does, rather than horizontal features that go an inch deep everywhere. It is exactly the kind of problem point tools cannot touch and platform projects never reach — and exactly what a Domain that spans your operation makes solvable.

Why this is the fast road to Level 2

Level 2 requires one connected model of your operation. The platform-first playbook builds that model speculatively, all at once, before value. Problem-first builds the same model incrementally, each piece justified by a use case already in production. Same destination — but one route bills you for a year before the first result, and the other pays for itself from the first solved problem. Our flagship customers run at Level 2 for the parts of the plant that matter long before a platform-first program would have finished normalizing tag names.

Bring us your problem.

Thirty minutes. Bring the problem that costs you the most sleep — or come with nothing and leave the workshop with a ranked list of problems worth solving. Either way, you'll know what Level 2 looks like for your operation and what the first step returns.
